How a solar battery upgrade works
A typical battery upgrade takes one day to install. The whole process — from your first call to a working system — runs two to four weeks including the survey, design, and DNO notification. Here is every step.

- STEP 01
Enquiry
Fill in the quiz or call us. We ask about your existing system, property, and what you want to achieve. Takes two minutes.
You will hear back the same working day — usually within a couple of hours.
- STEP 02
Free site survey
An MCS-certified engineer visits your property to inspect your roof, existing panels, inverter, consumer unit and cable routes.
The survey is free with no obligation. We photograph everything and take measurements for the design.
- STEP 03
Design and exact figures
You receive a written proposal with the recommended system, the installed price (not a guide — the actual price), and illustrative annual savings with the assumptions shown.
If a grant or loan applies, we show the net cost after funding. No hidden extras.
- STEP 04
DNO notification
We handle the G98 or G99 application to your Distribution Network Operator (SPEN in central/south Scotland, SSEN in the north and Highlands).
G98 (under 3.68 kW export) is a simple notification. G99 (above 3.68 kW) requires approval and may take 4–8 weeks. We manage the whole process.
- STEP 05
Building warrant (where needed)
Most domestic installations do not need a building warrant. If yours does — for example, listed buildings or certain structural work — we arrange it.
Conservation-area and listed-building consent is handled before any work begins.
- STEP 06
Installation
Carried out by Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd (SC484353), our MCS-registered installation partner. Battery only: 1 day. Full system: 2–3 days.
All work is TrustMark-approved (3559930) and carries an insurance-backed guarantee.
- STEP 07
Commissioning and handover
The system is commissioned, tested, and registered with MCS. You receive a handover pack with your MCS certificate, warranty documents, monitoring setup, and user guide.
We walk you through the monitoring app and make sure you can see your generation and battery state.
- STEP 08
Aftercare
We are here after the install. Monitoring alerts, warranty support, and annual performance checks are included. One number to call if anything needs attention.
