Editorial policy

Every figure, grant amount, and cost range published on this site is checked against primary sources before publication and reviewed on a regular schedule. We do not invent facts, round numbers for convenience, or present estimates as confirmed.

How we check facts

  • Grant figures are verified against Home Energy Scotland published rates and terms. Each figure carries a “checked” date.
  • VAT rates are confirmed with HMRC guidance on energy-saving materials.
  • Export tariff rates are sourced from supplier tariff pages. We never guarantee a rate and always state the date checked.
  • System cost ranges are based on real quotations from our installer partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd (SC484353), an MCS-certified installer.
  • Solar yield estimates use gov.scot and MCS MIS 3002 methodology for Scottish irradiance zones.

Review schedule

Grant figures, export rates, and scheme status are reviewed at least quarterly. Cost ranges are reviewed when supplier pricing changes. Every page carrying financial data displays a “Last updated” date. If a scheme closes or a figure changes between reviews, we update immediately.

What we do not do

  • We do not invent statistics or import figures from other countries.
  • We do not present estimates as guaranteed savings.
  • We do not publish unverifiable testimonials or fabricated case studies.
  • We do not use percentage claims for panel cleaning effectiveness, as no measured UK soiling figure exists.

Our sources

  • Home Energy Scotland — grant and loan rates, eligibility criteria
  • gov.scot — Scottish energy policy, Heat in Buildings
  • Ofgem — Smart Export Guarantee, energy regulation
  • MCS — certification standards, installer register, MIS 3002
